Osprey Catch of the Day
As a child, I dreamed of becoming a National Geographic photographer. I loved animals and nature, and love photography. I ended up focusing on photographing people and loved it…however, a piece of me has always loved photographing nature.
There has been a lot more wildlife and birds in the town we moved to over a year ago. I decided to rent a long lens this week - 200mm-800mm - and spend a few days capturing what was in my backyard!
It was my mom’s last night in town, the lens I ordered arrived a day late and right before sunset. We were both tired and it was cold, but we said “lets just go for a few minutes!” We drove to the park nearby, walked towards the water and saw the Osprey flying. We were hoping it was there after seeing it a few days prior.
I spent a minute practicing the focus on such a long lens on a small, moving object. As soon as I started to get the hang of it, the osprey started to dive and swooped down for the catch! I was not expecting it so fast and was hoping it was focusing!! The bird flew off and was the cold wind started blowing, we headed back to our car, so grateful for the timing!
